In order to fully enjoy all that there is to be offered, though, it is important to know all of the most enjoyed activities and best places to go to take part in whatever it is that everybody else does when they are in Zakopane. A guide to what to do and where to do it will go a long way in helping you to have the best possible stay, as there definitely are specific activities and places to do them that make the experience all the more unique and exciting.

  • Skiing and Snowboarding – Skiing and snowboarding are definitely the hottest activities to participate in when you are in Zakopane. Evidence of the popularity of these adventurous winter sports can be seen all over the city, and there are plenty of reasons why these sports are so popular. For starters there are five individual ski resorts spread throughout the town, offering a wide variety and huge number of amenities, and different style accommodations. There are also plenty of shops in the town at which you can get everything you need for the most enjoyable and exciting ski or snowboarding trip possible, whether you want to rent or you would rather buy. But most importantly, there are numerous stunning peaks from which to start your journey, and there is no shortage of ski lifts throughout the town that will take you there. In fact, the most recent count is more than 50 different ski lifts, and the number does not seem like it’s going to stop growing any time soon. Some of the best peaks to ski or snowboard from include Gubalowka (which provides ideal skiing and snowboarding for all skill levels, and it is the slope closest to Zakopane’s town), Nosal (which has plenty of lifts and a shorter wait), and Kasprowy Wierch (which features a 1930’s cable car and is particularly challenging compared to the rest). In addition, there is also something for those skiers that prefer cross country skiing, which is also ideal for folks traveling with children. Krokiew is not only a ski area that is perfect for all skill levels of skiers but it also offers some of the best views of the mountains that you can get while you are skiing too. One thing is for sure, and that is that you will not have any trouble finding great places to ski, and participate in other winter sports, when you visit Zakopane.
  • Hiking and Biking – The beautiful Tatra mountains are not only good for skiing but for exploring during the warmer months as well. There are plenty of trails that offer scenic routes through the mountains, and that lead to captivating vantage points. And what better way to experience it all than by hiking the trails or taking a bike ride? Biking is more ideal for exploring lower lying areas, and is actually frowned upon when it comes to the higher elevations, but there are still plenty of places in and around Zakopane to take a relaxing bike ride. As for hiking, you can choose trails that will keep you close to Zakopane or you can hike trails that will have you out there for days to weeks. What type of hiking or biking you decide to do is up to you, but you surely won’t have a shortage of options available to you, that is for sure.
  • Rafting – Last but not least, if you are really an adventurous soul, Zakopane is also a great place to go rafting during the warmer months. The Dunajec River is easily accessible from Zakopane and there are plenty of tour services that can set you up with a guide and a rafting tour. The Dunajec River sits right on the border of Poland and Slovakia and runs through a magnificent gorge, the Pieniny Gorge. For these reasons any rafting tour will not only give you the excitement that you are looking for during your Zakopane vacation, but it will also provide you with some of the most captivating views of the Tatra Mountains, as well as the cities, towns, and other surroundings you will see along the way. You don’t have to worry about safety either, as this is not a white water river rafting experience, but rather a slow paced, relaxing rafting trip that is ideal for all age groups and athletic levels. Taking a rafting trip down the Dunajec River will surely be one of the most memorable experiences you will have during your stay in Zakopane.

There are plenty of activities to participate in, both indoors as well as outdoors, but spending sometime outside is definitely a must when you visit Zakopane. The diverse and enchanting natural surroundings are simply not something to be missed. This is why so many people flood Zakopane hotels every year, and this is why you should include some outdoor time during your stay here too.
