Many people travel to Zakopane Poland to ski every year, which only makes sense since it is, after all, the dedicated “winter capital of Poland.” The medium sized town of no more than 30,000 people has essentially always been a ski town, since as far back as 1910 even, when the Kasprowy Wierch summit first began to be noticed by ski enthusiasts. In fact, so many ski enthusiasts who visit the town want to ski it that getting up to it by lift is often at least a 3 hour event, as the lifts can get extremely busy. The main purpose to go to the top of Kasprowy Wierch is no doubt to be able to ski back down, but there are other things to enjoy while you are up there as well. There are two different observatories at the top of Kasprowy Wierch, one astronomical, one meteorological, that were built as far back as 1938 and are worth seeing. And there are restaurants at the top of the mountain as well, which is a unique treat, as you often see restaurants on the lower portions of mountains but rarely the top. You will also find information offices that will inform you of anything you need or want to know about the area. With so much to offer, it is no wonder that Kasprowy Wierch is one of the most popular ski areas in Zakopane.
